The Verus Process
Verus Furniture handcrafts solid wood furniture from sustainably sourced American hardwoods like oak, walnut, maple, and cherry. Our process—from precision milling and traditional joinery to eco-friendly hand finishes—is rooted in timeless design and heirloom-quality craftsmanship. Made in Cleveland, Ohio and built to last, each piece reflects a commitment to sustainability, durability, and functional beauty.

Step 1
Materials - Responsibly & Sustainably Sourced
Our process begins with select-grade (the best) rough lumber. Starting with a tree that was felled more than a year in advance, our suppliers cut the lumber into "rough" planks, which are then stacked and air-dried for 6-12 months. Following this process, the wood is placed in a kiln to be further dried for up to 6 weeks, bringing the moisture content of the wood to a stable amount that is appropriate for furniture use. At this point, Verus Furniture obtains the dried, rough-lumber to be made into furniture. All lumber is sourced from local, Ohio sawmills who practice sustainable harvesting techniques.

step 2
Milling Lumber
Once wood arrives in our studio, our craftsmen follow a multi-step milling process, including "jointing" as a first step, to create one square edge. This creates a smooth, flat surface to create the beautiful lumber that is transformed into the Verus Furniture you know and love.
